Disinfectants are Pesticides

Did you know that disinfectants are pesticides and are regulated by the EPA?  A product cannot be labeled a disinfectant unless it is registered with the EPA. It is prohibited for children under the age of 18 to handle pesticides, including disinfectants. Remember cleaning is KING! Regular soap and water is the best way to clean counters and hands. Save the disinfecting and sanitizing for for specific risk situations- ie after cleaning up bodily fluids one should disinfect the surface. After cleaning a counter of raw meat, one should sanitize the counter. **Use safer disinfectants and sanitizers, such as hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which can be used as both a surface and hand sanitizer, and a disinfectant and does not need to be rinsed off.  Find safer disinfectants here.
